About Joy

She paints mostly in acrylics and oils, but also enjoys using watercolour. 
 
The spontaneity of bold brush strokes and contrast of light and shade are her most obvious characteristics.

Artist Joy Schmidt lives in the Murray River town of Corowa on the NSW/Vic border. Joy has always loved art from a young age but has not done any specialised art courses, except for some time spent painting under the expertise of artist Vicki McKoy at Howlong.

 

More recently she has adopted a more contemporary approach to painting and consequently the excitement she feels when working on canvas in this way results in paintings with much more energy.

She paints mostly in oil over acrylic and finishes with a loose addition of pastel linework”.

Her paintings are exhibited and sold in Sydney, Corowa, Rutherglen, Holbrook, Wodonga, Corryong, Chiltern, Bright, Milawa, King Valley, Wangaratta and Yarrawonga and she has received ‘Highly Commended’, Peoples’ Choice’ and First and Second place awards at Exhibitions.

  • 2014 Equal People’s Choice awarded for oil painting of ‘Reflections under the Bridge, Venice’ – St Augustine’s Art Show

  • 2014 First Prize in Section 1 awarded for her oil painting titled ‘Venice’  – Corowa Federation Art Exhibition, Corowa

  • 2013 First Prize in Section 4  awarded for her acrylic painting titled ‘Magnolias’ – Wagga Art Prize, Wagga Wagga

  • 2008 People’s Choice awarded for her oil painting titled ‘Saltzberg’ - St Augustine’s Art Exhibition, Wodonga                                                                                          

  • 2013 Second Place awarded for her Oil on Canvas titled ‘Positano’ - Wangaratta Art Show

  • 2-Dimensional Award for her acrylic/mixed media painting titled ‘The Flower Girl’ at the Chiltern Visual Art Exhibition in 2013.

  • Finalist for her acrylic painting titled ‘Barefoot Bride’ at The Myrtleford Art Prize in 2013.

  • Equal Third in People’s Choice at the Rutherglen Art Exhibition in 2012.

This website doesn’t currently take online payments for Joy's artworks.

If you’d like to purchase an artwork please contact Joy to discuss payment and delivery.

Delivery methods include:

  • Pick up from Corowa NSW - Free

  • Deliver to you if within 70km of Corowa NSW - A $50 fee

  • Delivery by courier or Australia Post - The cost will depend on your location and size/weight of packaged artwork.

Payment is by direct deposit or cash on pickup/delivery.
